I dont condone what happened on this day 10 years ago. But I fail to see why it is front page news here in Australia. It is on all the tv stations, all the newspapers, all the websites. I understand it is a massive event in US history, I understand that it caused a lot of hurt and despair. I understand that there is anger and hatred towards the perpetrators and rightly so. However it is not Australian news. It is lazy journalism to just syndicate stories from the US on this event. Sure we should acknowledge it, but we do not need special edition sections in the newspaper. What benefit do us Australians get from reading or seeing all this blanket coverage?
Unfortunately Australian society has an infatuation with the US, our previous Prime Minister was nothing more than George Bush’s bitch. While I agree that we need an alliance with the US I don’t believe trying to emulate or follow the US blindly will ever be good for this country.
